Various features make this promontory on the sea a natural oasis of extraordinary importance with its 325 species of flora, mineteen of them endemic, and a complex of rock plants which, in some area, have never been disturbed by the man.
The presence of various birds of the falcon family, now rare, and importants species of marine birds is of contour to an extraordinary, wild beauty of the
landscape. To all this we must add the historical and cultural features of Monet Cofano: from the important grottoes Scurati, a greatest natural shelter inside which is a little burgh with various dwellings, separated by a paved street, and the Mangiapane and Miceli grottoes, in them engravings have been found which go back to the Upper Palaeolithic, and finally to the Spanish watch-towers and the tuna fishing station. Of particular interest, even if laborious, it is the excursion to the Monte Cofano where, after two hours of way between ginestre, carob trees and palms dwaries, an arrogant panorama will be opened that offers to the look the sight of the gulfs of Bonagia and the Cofano.
